Desktop Goose is a lifestyle choice
Desktop goose is one of my favorite random artifacts of the internet. It’s a wacky little windows plug-in where installing Desktop Goose will…put a goose on your desktop. (I know, I am really earning my wordsmithing levels today.)
Our favorite hjonker goose slides in memes, drops little text bombs on screen, and then gets annoyed and grabs your mouse and runs with it. Desktop Goose mixes perfectly with a first-person shooter, as it will hold your gaming mouse and spin you around at terrible times.
If you want to customize the experience, you can add your memes and text to the goose’s config. Your custom creations will then be included in the array of Goose communications.
The goose can only be dismissed by running a .bat file buried in the project, a task manager force quit, or an extra secret, by long pressing your escape key. It’s your tech-unsavvy grandparent’s worst nightmare.
It’s become part of internet lore and has been used in popular videos like YT Kitboga. Desktop Goose went toe to toe with a scammer, and the scammer lost.
Other incredible projects by Samperson
Desktop Goose is excellent, but some of Samperson’s other projects are even better.
A year ago, Samperson brought clippy back to life, gave them a soul, and then told Clippy he was going to die. The results feel extremely applicable to 2023 and the generative AI revolution.
And now, Samperson has been working on building a full-running version of Doom on good ‘ole notepad, which garnered some media attention.
Wrap-up
Overall, I’m a big fan of Samperson’s work. I hope this coding mad scientist will create more Frankenstein creations soon.
