Zeph Review

Grade: B-

Puzzle platformer game with some short but complex levels

Zeph is a really short one, and there are only 3 levels. You play as a sun elemental spirit who takes the shape of this young woman. She’s got the sun’s powers of gravity, fire, and radiant energy (like radiant energy that can spark photosynthesis), and you use these powers to interact with the landscape so that you proceed through the puzzles. Your goal is to gather the three crystals from this planet and use them to reinvigorate the dying sun.

The game has an excellent chill soundtrack, and the puzzles are pretty interesting. There’s a few puzzles where you bend reality, you change gravity’s direction, and a few of them definitely had me scratching my head a few times.

It was made by a student game studio, Grannus Games, and considering the developers, the only dig at the game is that it was so short. I think the project was intended that way, though. I don’t mind a bite-sized 1 hour game like this from time to time.
